Autocratech – Here are October winners

A two-week break had me delay the announcement of Automobile and Gadget of the Month winners for October. Here they are now. Do you agree with the choices?

Autocratech’s monthly report for October didn’t turn up on time (my fault, but do check out previous month’s report). However, I will sum it up in November’s report to keep you informed of all developments. Allow me this opportunity to quickly announce the Automobile and Gadget of the Month winners for October. After all, festive week is still going on and I intend to not interrupt.

October is also known as Techtober. Some great stuff came out in the past month that deserves recognition. A two-week break from Autocratech wouldn’t have changed my mind about the October winners though. They  acquit themselves well as both products and representatives of their industries. Here they are:

Automobile of the Month – 2019 Yamaha YZF-R3

Despite my reservations about its styling, I never hold back on showering love on the Yamaha YZF-R3. The same holds true for the redesigned-for-2019 motorcycle. It now looks like the R15’s big brother. It boosts the appeal of both bikes and links them to their larger siblings.

The 2019 Yamaha YZF-R3 still looks distinct enough motorcycle from the tuning fork brand. Few updates like fully digital instrumentation and all-around LED lighting help it feel modern. The fact that it has lost weight despite being mechanically similar to its predecessor still boggles my mind.

It had a great competitor in the all-new BMW 3 Series. There was also the Audi e-Tron SUV. Either vehicle has to live up to some expectation. The 3 Series has to be a driver’s car. The e-Tron has to serve as a viable alternative to the Jaguar i-Pace, if not the Tesla Model X. The R3 has to be the best small displacement motorcycle around.

The thing about the Yamaha is that it is among the handful small-displacement parallel-twin motorcycles on sale. It is meant for those not interested in motorcycles like KTM 390 Duke and BMW G 310 R. Trust me, there are many such folks and due to bikes like the R3, their numbers will keep growing. After all, who doesn’t want a sharp-looking fun motorcycle that isn’t intimidating?

Gadget of the Month – Razer Phone 2

Specialty phones are the need of the hour. Today,  almost every phone looks and feels the same. These specialty phones break that monotony. They also remind us that a smartphone can feel special even if it has mostly run-of-the-mill parts. At least that is what Razer Phone 2 is about.

Its specs are similar to that of Samsung Galaxy Note9. It lacks features like Asus ROG Phone’s Air Triggers. The Razer Phone 2 is more than just about its spec sheet. Using it in real life is a different experience. It takes some adjusting even. That display feels seamless and makes the phone seem faster than its competitors.  Just use the Razer Phone 2 for as little as 10 minutes. You will consider the phone you own a slowpoke (trust me it won’t likely be).

The addition of Chroma RGB lighting on the Razer logo and the wireless charger is dope. This single addition gives the Razer Phone 2 a lot more character than its rivals. Lastly, it has those big speakers and is still IP67 water and dust-resistant. Had it been on sale in India, I’d have bought it with eyes closed. To my eyes, this is a winner through and through and deserves this award.

Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a belated Happy Diwali. Do log on to Autocratech next week for more exciting auto and tech stories. Also, a new Medium story is coming soon.
