EISA stands for Expert Sound and Imaging Association. It started in Europe in 1982 when Editors-in-Chief from five European magazines came together to select the ‘Camera of the Year’ for the first time. Why is it being talked about here? EISA spans over 25 countries and over 50 specialist magazines from these countries. These collaborate and contribute their experience to EISA’s six expert groups, mobile devices being one of them. This collaboration has awarded three smartphones* that are on sale in India. These smartphones are the Huawei P20 Pro, the Honor 10, and the Nokia 7 Plus. While the P20 Pro was awarded the best smartphone, the Nokia 7 Plus was awarded the best consumer smartphone. What makes them think the Nokia 7 Plus is worthy of such honor? Time to find out it seems.

What’s new about the Nokia 7 Plus?
The Nokia 7 Plus has been on sale for quite some time. In simple terms, it is a bigger Nokia 7. In Indian market, this is the only Nokia 7 variant on offer. Its design gives it a clean and subtle feel. There are copper accents on the phone that run along the its edges, used in Nokia logo on the back, and outline the rear camera and fingerprint scanner. The phone is made out of 6000-series aluminium and feels quite premium to hold and use.
The Nokia 7 Plus is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip paired with Adreno 512 GPU. It has 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage space (expandable up to 256GB with a microSD card). The phone gets an IPS LCD display with Full HD+ (2160x1080p) resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone runs on stock Android 8 Oreo and is a part of Android One program (read: software updates and security patches almost alongside Pixel smartphones).
The Nokia 7 Plus has a dual-camera setup at the rear. This comprises of one 12-megapixel lens with f/1.75 aperture while the other lens is a 13-megapixel telephoto unit with f/2.6 aperture and 2x zoom. These lenses are mated to a dual-LED flash. The front camera gets a 16-megapixel lens. The Nokia 7 Plus is a dual-SIM phone and has connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou, and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Nokia 7 Plus has a single speaker onboard. It is powered by a 3800mAh battery and has a USB Type-C port for charging (with fast charging support). The phone measures 158.38mm x 75.64mm x 9.55mm (due to that slight camera bump). It is available in two colour options – Black and White (both with copper accents) – though only Black is currently on sale in India. In the box, users gets Nokia 7 Plus smartphone, charging cable + adapter, user guide, and SIM ejector tool.
Is the Nokia 7 Plus worth consideration?
The Nokia 7 Plus is worth consideration, but its case becomes weak when one considers its price. Had it been carrying a sub-Rs 20,000 price, its purchase case would have been way better than it is right now. However, this is where the EISA award makes the case for Nokia 7 Plus.
Getting different people agree to one point can be difficult. Few people could agree on a Nokia phone being good enough to win an EISA award, leave alone the Best Consumer Smartphone award. It is a proof of just how good this phone is. It deserves a shot the next time one is looking for a premium smartphone that emphasizes overall experience over one/two killer features.
