HMD Global has been on a roll since acquiring rights to the Nokia brand name. It now has a decent footing in both feature phone and smartphone markets. The device in discussion today is a feature phone and it follows the success of 3310 feature phone. This device is called the Nokia 8110. It is an interesting device and that’s partly because of its looks. The other reason is the fact that in China, it is doing extremely well with more than 88,000 registered pre-orders*. This phone has been launched in India (finally) alongside the Nokia 3.1 Plus. Is it worth anyone’s time and consideration today?

What’s new about the Nokia 8110?
The Nokia 8110 is a feature phone. This means a slight learning curve for users who have never/rarely used a feature phone before. What will endear buyers to this phone is its sliding mechanism (it is reminiscent of the phones used in The Matrix movie trilogy). This sliding mechanism involves a keypad cover that a user can slide down to answer and call and slide up to end it.
The phone itself does not have regular slab-like shape. It is curved and should aid the device’s ergonomics. What users will probably not like is the phone’s polycarbonate construction. While on par for a feature phone, those using smartphones made from glass and metal may not like the feel of the plastic shell around the Nokia 8110. That, by no means, is a mark against this phone’s build quality and fit and finish though.
Coming to the Nokia 8110’s hardware, it has a 1.1GHz dual-core Qualcomm 205 chip that is paired to 512GB RAM and 4GB internal storage. The internal storage on the phone can be expanded up to 64GB with a micrSD card. The display is a 2.45-inch curved unit with QVGA (320x240p) resolution. It gets Smart Feature OS which is based on KaiOS.
The Nokia 8110 has a 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. In terms of connectivity options, it has dual-SIM (one micro and other nano), 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, Wi-Fi Hotspot, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, and microUSB (USB 2.0). It is powered by a removable 1500mAh battery. The Nokia 8110 carries IP52 water/dust-resistance certification. It measures 133.45mm x 49.3mm x 14.9mm and weighs 117 grams. There are two colour options available for the phone – Black and Yellow. In the box come the Nokia 8110 handset, charger, headset, and quick user guide.
Is the Nokia 8110 worth consideration?
As of now, it is not available for sale in India. However, with Nokia 6.1 Plus arriving here in near future, expect this phone to come here soon. A good indication of that is the phone’s launch in Taiwan which took place alongside that of Nokia 6.1 Plus. As to why should it come to India, there are quite a few reasons.
The Nokia 8110 has been fancied by the fans of The Matrix movies. Its simple-yet-effective way of letting users answer and end calls is something unique to this phone. In a world of smartphones, this feature phone has its own smarts too. It can allow users to surf the web on their devices by using its Hotspot feature. It has 4G which means fast internet speeds.
The most important reason people will likely buy this phone is because of its price tag. If it is priced anywhere near to the Nokia 3310, it will sell like hot cakes. After all, what worked in Nokia 3310’s favour are three factors – nostalgia, a defining feature, and price. The same can work for the Nokia 8110 too. Plus, users will be able to play Snakes on it too. Is the Nokia 8110 not worth waiting for?
