What makes a mid-range phone like the Motorola Moto G6 click with the masses? Is it the price? Or is it features? Perhaps it is the value-for-money factor. Either way, mid-range smartphones represent a huge chunk of market in India. Asus understand this and is bringing the Zenfone Max Pro M1 to India. Its launch date is July 26 and its price will start from 10,999. The device will go on sale on Flipkart. But will it be worth consideration?

What’s new about the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1?
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is not a ground-breaking device in any way. In fact, calling it a regular mid-range device isn’t straying from the truth either. That said, it does a few things right design-wise. For one, the forehead and the chin are small and there is no oblong fingerprint scanner (like on this phone) to mess the minimalistic look up front.
Most edges are clean barring the right edge which has the power button and volume rocker and bottom edge with microUSB port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and speaker grille. The fingerprint scanner has been seated on the rear panel. The corners and edges have been rounded for a premium touch. The back panel’s matte finish does make it feel great (as far as its photos go).
A mid-range phone is as much about its specs as about price. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 does not disappoint in this area. Doing duties under the body of this phone is a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor with Adreno 509 GPU. It offers three RAM variants – 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB. Two internal storage options are also on offer on the device – 32GB and 64GB (both offer expansion of up to 2TB with a microSD card). The variants of the phone look like this – 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB, and 6GB/64GB.
The device has a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display that has Full HD+ (2160x1080p) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It runs on Pure Android 8.1 Oreo (it seems bloatware has been given a miss this time around). The Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a dual rear-camera setup. Of these, one is a 13-megapixel lens (primary) with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. The secondary lens is a 5-megapixel bokeh unit with f/2.4 aperture.
The front camera on the device has an 8-megapixel lens with f/2.2 aperture and Softlight LED flash support. Connectivity options on the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou, dual-SIM, and 3.5mm headphone jack. It is powered by a 5000mAh battery with fast charging support. The phone measures 159mm x 76mm x 8.46mm and weighs 180 grams. In the box comes the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, charging cable and adapter, SIM ejection tool, and warranty card and user guide.
Is the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 worth consideration?
There is a lot to like about the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. The first thing is it is free (or almost free) of bloatware and that should translate into faster Android updates and security patches. Second, it ditches the hybrid-SIM slot and goes for a tri-card slot which can accommodate two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time.
The talk of the town is that 5000mAh battery. Not only is it massive but with Android 8.1 Oreo’s battery-saving features and Snapdragon 636 CPU, it should help users to use it for longer than a day without worry. With three variants on offer, there is little reason to not consider this phone. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is what people expect from a mid-range smartphone and it delivers too.
