Apple’s latest creation (when it comes to computers) is here in India. The iMac Pro (or the iMac driven bonkers) is on sale in India for a jaw-dropping price tag of Rs 4,15 lakh. What’s new in the Apple iMac Pro?

The Apple iMac Pro boasts a new 27-inch 5K (5120x2880p) Retina display with 500 nits’ brightness. It has a Intel Xeon W processor that is clocked at 3.2GHz and can be overclocked up to 4.2GHz. It is an octa-core (8-core) chipset and is paired with an 8GB AMD Radeon Vega 56 GPU. The all-in-one PC from Apple has 32GB DDR4 RAM and sports a 1TB solid state hard drive for storage needs.

Up front, there is a Full HD FaceTime camera. The PC supports two 60Hz 5K (5120x2880p) external displays, four 60Hz 4K UHD (3840x2160p) displays or four60Hz 4K (4096x2304p) displays. The iMac Pro supports extended desktop and video mirroring modes. There is one Thunderbolt 3 digital video output, a native DisplayPort output over USB Type-C, and support for Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA output via adapters.

The iMac Pro has stereo speakers, four microphones and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is an SDXC card slot, four USB 3.0 ports, four Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports and one Ethernet port. The iMac Pro has Wi-fi 802.11ac with compatibility for 802.11 a/b/g/n types, and Bluetooth 4.2. The whole package weighs 9.7kg and ships with a Magic keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Magic Mouse 2, Lightning to USB cable, and a power cable in the box. The only colour option available for the iMac Pro is Space Grey and both the mouse and the keyboard come in the same colour.

Is the Apple iMac pro worth consideration?

The iMac Pro is iMac on steroids. It is perhaps the powerful all-in-one PC on sale in India. While the only configuration available for iMac Pro is powerful enough to blow most PCs out of the water, it is the lowest configuration to have this PC in. This all-in-one from Apple can be specced to have up to an 18-core processor, up to 128GB RAM, 4TB SSD internal storage and 16GB GPU (AMD Radeon Vega 56/64). These GPUs also help provide the iMac Pro with VR support.

The iMac Pro is the first time in a long time (or may be ever) an Apple product is available with a keyboard that also has a numeric keypad. The iMac Pro can handle 500 watts of power. The use of dual blowers, a high-capacity heat sink, and extra venting help this PC manage 67 per cent more power than a 27-inch iMac. With so much loaded into this PC, the only reason it will be worth your consideration is if you are a power user like a video editor. Even then, it will likely be out of your budget, considering that for less than half that amount, one can assemble a similarly powerful PC. The iMac Pro’s true buyers are enterprises that can spare the budget of acquiring such a costly (powerful too) PC. For the rest, do yourself a favour – assemble a PC and save money.
